The Payroll Tax Manager will be our internal subject matter expert on all things payroll tax, advising payroll, equity, HR, and accounting teams on legislative changes, validating existing and new positions, developing global payroll tax policy, and generally helping the business better understand and report its payroll tax obligations. This role will also lead all payroll tax audits and inquiries from revenue authorities while advising the business on best practices and minimizing payroll tax risk. The Payroll Tax Manager’s role is to elevate all of its partners' operations and ensure the business and its employees (Bricksters) are reporting the right amount of tax in the right periods.

The impact you will have:

Payroll Tax Advisory

  • Team with our global payroll team to review payroll tax calculations and document technical positions
  • Identify opportunities for refunds or otherwise de-risk our global payroll tax positions.
  • Assist in M&A integration to ensure pre and post close payroll tax positions are supported and optimized for the business.
  • Team with our equity administration group to validate equity withholding and assist with other shareholder transaction planning
  • Assist our payroll team with global payroll tax communications and responses to employee inquiries
  • Assist other tax team members with payroll tax matters that impact our global direct and indirect tax matters, such as gross receipts taxes and business level employer taxes
  • Partner with our equity administration team to ensure that equity tax reporting is accurately reflected in our payroll tax filings and collaborate to solve cross functional payroll tax matters.

Audit Readiness

  • Lead global payroll tax audits (internal and external) by responding to information requests, communicating our positions, and remediating any identified exposures
  • Assist with global payroll tax policy and implementation
  • Assist the accounting team to help reconcile payroll tax accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support compliance and audit requirements.

Leadership & Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, Accounting, Equity Administration, Legal, and Benefits on cross functional initiatives including employee versus EOR decisions, and new entity creation.
  • Participate in M&A due diligence and integration activities to ensure accurate tax setup and reporting
  • Partner with our Finance Data Team and other stakeholders to re-imagine the payroll tax reporting process and identify opportunities to build on Databricks technology.

What we look for:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of payroll tax experience
  • Strong knowledge of US federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Knowledge of international payroll tax regulations
  • Knowledge of equity compensation tax matters
  • Experience with payroll systems and tax filing platforms (SAP, Netsuite, Workday preferred).
  • Experience leveraging automation tools or AI at work
  • Experience with payroll tax audits and negotiating with revenue authorities
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Workday
  • Experience with mobility tax issues (state to state or country to country)
  • Experience in large, complex, multinational organizations

 

Pay Range Transparency

Databricks is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents the expected base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks anticipated utilizing the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. Zone 1 Pay Range $161,000—$221,450 USD Zone 2 Pay Range $145,000—$199,300 USD Zone 3 Pay Range $136,900—$188,200 USD Zone 4 Pay Range $128,800—$177,100 USD
